Controlling Carisbrook cruises past Lexton by 66 points
Carisbrook has further strengthened its premiership credentials with a commanding 66-point victory over Lexton at Lexton Reserve on Saturday.
The Redbacks controlled the contest from the outset and rarely looked troubled on their way to a 16.8.(104) to 6.2.(38) victory.
Lexton entered the match hoping to challenge one of the competition’s benchmark sides on its home ground, but Carisbrook’s pressure and efficiency around the contest quickly proved decisive.
The visitors established control in the opening quarter, kicking 4.5 to 1.2 to open a 21-point lead at the first break.
The second quarter effectively put the result beyond doubt. Carisbrook piled on seven goals to one, with Tim Rinaldi proving a constant threat inside 50.
Supported by Patrick Taranto, Cooper Driscoll, and Mitchell Treacy, the Redbacks dominated possession and field position to take a commanding 57-point advantage into the main break.
To their credit, Lexton continued to battle hard after half-time. Eric Wilkinson worked tirelessly, while Billy Briody, Thomas Cullinan, and Henry Marshman continued to compete strongly around the contest.
However, Carisbrook’s class and depth were evident as the visitors added another five goals to one in the third term to extend the margin to 83 points at the final change.
With the result beyond doubt, Lexton finished the stronger of the two sides in the final quarter, kicking three goals and preventing Carisbrook from adding a major score.
While it did little to affect the outcome, it was a positive finish for the Tigers against one of the league’s strongest teams.
Rinaldi finished with six goals for the Redbacks, while Taranto, Driscoll, Treacy, Elliot Brandon-Jones, Todd Bryant, and Jackson Bowen were all influential contributors.
For Lexton, Wilkinson was again outstanding and was well supported by Briody, Cullinan, Marshman, Thomas McGregor and Tynan Haintz.
