Goats have been entering the Timor cemetery and eating flowers left on graves, with residents expressing their concerns.
Timor Cemetery Trust secretary Glen Ipsen said the problem had been ongoing for a couple of years.
“The goats keep jumping in. People put flowers down and the goats eat them,” he said.
The cemetery is fenced, but this has not bothered the trip of approximately 15 goats.
“These goats go over a pretty good fence,” Mr Ipsen said.
One resident approached The Advertiser to express their concerns and said flowers left at the graves of loved ones were being eaten and graves scratched by the goats.
Central Goldfields Shire confirmed it was aware of the problem.
“Council’s compliance team are aware of the issue and have been working with the owner to keep the goats confined,” council’s coordinator compliance Elizabeth Vaughan said.
According to council, no issues have been reported since council worked with the owner regarding the issue around two weeks ago.
The Timor cemetery dates back to 1878 and houses 1310 graves.
