DIVISION ONE

The game of the round did not disappoint, with Maryborough Golf Blue and Talbot Gold unable to be separated on 50 points apiece.

Golf Blue took two of the rinks to take nine points, and now move one point clear in third position.

Kevin Prime defeated Chris Crossley 19-15, and Gerry Carmody defeated Matt Vernon 19-13. But Peter Fletcher’s 22-12 win over Anthony Chambers meant that neither team could claim the ascendancy.

Dunolly Blue only just escaped with victory over Highland White, with a 58-56 win.

Terry Long defeated Bert Spencer 24-16, but Robert Bursill’s 22-11 win over Chris Williams gave Highland White an avenue into the game.

Tony Galofaro’s 23-18 win over Roy Crawley ensured Dunolly Blue kept track of the ladder-leaders, Highland Tartan.

For their part, Tartan returned to form with a dominant 91-37 win over Avoca Red.

Greg Shay took a 29-12 win over Ian Proctor, while Michael Fryar had the dominant win of the day with a 34-13 triumph over Daniel Giddings. Garry Coburn finished the job with a 28-12 win over Noel Parratt.

DIVISION TWO

Newstead Blue continues to be the dominant team of the season so far, stretching their lead atop the ladder to 19 points thanks to an 85-35 win over Highland.

Bill Burnett recorded a 34-11 win over Tilleke Wadeson, while Brian Daly scored a 35-7 win over Jeanette Oliver.

Highland were able to prevent the sweep, however, thanks to Frank Mifsud’s 17-16 win over David Cobden.

Newstead Blue’s cause was helped by nearest rival Maryborough Golf drawing their game 65-apiece against Maldon.

Incredibly, this is the third time in the first eight games that Maldon have had a share of the points.

Maldon took two of the three rinks, with Wesley Honeyman scoring a 25-12 win over Ross Andrews and Peter Sedgwick taking a 23-22 win over Kort Gay.

Francis Graham Smith’s 31-17 win over Annette Gillham was the rink Maryborough Golf needed to take a share of the points home.

Carisbrook sit seven points behind Golf in third position after a dominant 103-34 win over Bridgewater.

Ron Baker scored a 39-13 win over Ron Brown, while Ross Gregory had a 22-15 win over Christopher Brooshooft. Malcolm Milne’s 42-6 win over Donald Wilson helped Carisbrook increase their percentage in the process.

Talbot also took a clean sweep in their 82-49 win over Dunolly Green, sitting just two points behind Carisbrook and nine behind Maryborough Golf.

Ian Burt took a 19-16 win over Wayne Stephens, while Robert Jackson scored a 29-22 win over Sandra Chaplin. Barb Crossley finished things off with a 34-11 win over Jim Haigh.

Dunolly Gold kept their top four chances alive thanks to a 71-52 win over Avoca.

Avoca took a rink thanks to Gordon Marr’s 22-16 win over Paul Chase, but it was all Dunolly Gold otherwise, with Aaron Britten taking a 25-16 win over Loralee Field and Fabio Delconte scoring a 30-14 win over Christine Bearpark.

ROUND NINE

With just three rounds to go until the Christmas break, results are as important as ever.

The key game of the weekend sees second-placed Dunolly Blue take on third-placed Maryborough Golf Blue in division one, with a result imperative for both teams’ quests to chase a top two finish.

Stablemates Highland Tartan and Highland White meet, with this game perhaps fascinating after a draw was the result of their last meeting.

Talbot Gold will look to maintain their top four spot, and perhaps capitalise on the fortunes of Dunolly Blue and Golf Blue, when they host Avoca Red, who will need a win to keep their own chances alive.

In division two, the blockbuster game of the week sees Newstead Blue travelling to Carisbrook in a meeting between first and third.

Maryborough Golf will look to bounce back onto the winners list when they host Avoca, while Talbot will be out to march up the ladder when they travel to Bridgewater.

In battles between teams outside the top four, Highland will host Dunolly Gold, and Dunolly Green will host Newstead White.

Maldon will have the bye, and could even move into the top four depending on results — banking on a Newstead Blue win over Carisbrook, specifically.
