Community rally after tragic fire
Friends, family and the wider community have rallied together to support the family affected by last week’s fatal house fire on Barr Street.
Locals have banded together to donate clothes, toys, food, school supplies and pyjamas.
A GoFundMe has been organised to cover the cost of funeral expenses, memorial services, and supporting the family during the difficult time.
Damon Howes, the 39-year-old father-of-five who died during the house fire, has been described as a “kind, loving partner who meant the world to his family”.
With a target of $8000, the community has already generously raised $2700.
On the fundraiser, loved ones wrote he was a “caring and hardworking man who always put his family first”.
His youngest son, two-year-old Levi, was rescued from the house but still remains in a serious condition at the Royal Children’s Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The family wrote they appreciate the kindness and support that has been offered, and thank the community for helping them honour Damon’s life and legacy.
Victoria Police said the investigation into what caused the fire remains ongoing.
