PHIL HOOPER INSURANCE A GRADECOLTS PHELANS 175 def CARISBROOK 75 and 6/153
While Dean Nalder scored a sensational century on day two of Carisbrook’s game against Colts Phelans, it was Colts who took the points thanks to a terrific first innings bowling performance.
Starting at 1/25 and chasing 176 to win, Carisbrook had early setbacks on the second day with the wickets of Caleb Cluff and Parteek Singh falling quickly without scoring, with Nick Henderson and Dayne Baker striking.
Soon, Colts would have two more wickets, with Colts’ leading bowlers striking again. Henderson bowled Brayden Wright for two, while Baker lured James Adam into nicking a ball to Luke Tatchell behind the stumps for two.
Henderson struck twice shortly after to give himself a five wicket haul, leaving Carisbrook on 7/30, with Elliot Cullinan and Cole Harris departing in quick succession.
Nalder and Cooper Mark were able to get some resistance during the second innings and put together a 24-run partnership, which gave them some consistent runs for the first time on the day.
Nalder eventually went thanks to Dave Robinson, who lured him into a shot straight to Baker for 22.
Colts got the final two wickets of the innings, while Harrison Kurzke getting the wicket of Lucas Hurse, before Baker came back on to remove Atticus Cullinan to leave Carisbrook all out for 75, and securing first innings points in the process.
Henderson took 5/25 off 16 overs in another supreme performance, while Baker took 3/18 off 13.2 overs.
Seeking a second consecutive outright victory, Colts got off to the perfect start when Cluff was removed for a duck, with Henderson striking again.
Instead, Carisbrook were able to get quick runs on the board, with Wright playing a super aggressive brand which got him to 27 in no time.
Colts got back on track, however, with Baker claiming the wicket of Harris for one, and Henderson getting Wright for 27.
But Carisbrook were batting smartly enough to prevent them from giving away an outright victory for a second game in succession, having also found enough in the tank to deny Clunes.
Nalder was playing a very aggressive form of cricket which yielded 11 fours and five sixes, and along with Martin Mark, put on 93 for the fourth wicket as they put on enough runs for Colts to bat again if required.
Martin, for his part, was frustrating the Colts bowlers as he protected his wicket, but eventually fell thanks to a good piece of bowling from Kurzke, who bowled him for nine.
Kurzke got in on the act for a second wicket, getting the edge of Singh for eight.
But it was Nalder who was able to get all the accolades, reaching 100 late in the day, before he eventually fell on the last ball of the day for 102, with the game called after his dismissal with Carisbrook on 6/153.
Kurzke took 2/6 off two overs, while Henderson finished on 2/32 off 11 overs.
