After a three-week wait, Colts Phelans and Laanecoorie Dunolly look set to finally do battle at Hedges Oval on Saturday.

While both teams have recently been able to at least not miss out on too much cricket, with scheduled byes in rounds two and three respectively, there will have been a sense of frustration for both teams regardless, particularly Colts Phelans, who were finally greeted with ideal conditions last Saturday, only to find that the outfield hadn’t sufficiently dried up to host their game against Clunes.

Nevertheless, it’s now an opportunity for both teams to test out their new, revamped lineups for the 2022/23 season, at long last.

For Colts, they’ll be looking to get their English recruits — Callum Watts, Ed Foreman and Matthew Scott — to make an impact straight away, with Maryborough’s fellow English recruit, Harry Lumsden, already making an immediate impact on the competition last week with his impressive bowling.

Meantime, reigning champs Laanecoorie Dunolly will be fielding a different looking lineup this season, with Tom Hannett and Brady Williams among the inclusions who will suit up for Laane during the season.

They will be relying on those two, along with natural improvement from others, to replace their outs from last season, with Liam Hurse, Tyler Hinds, Mitchell Blackman, Chris Lee and Liam Maffescioni not with the squad this season.

The last time these two teams played in a T20 match up was in round five last season, where Laane proved dominant in an eight-wicket win which was achieved with 45 balls to spare.

Zach Graham was the key to Laane’s success that day, conceding just six runs from his four overs with the ball, and taking the wicket of Rhys Wagstaff, before dominating with the bat, scoring 54 of their 94 runs, as their 2/94 was enough to chase down Colts’ 5/92 off their 20 overs.

Other good contributors for Laane included Maffescioni, who took 3/25, while Colts’ best performer was Kane Shepherd, who scored 42.
