PHIL HOOPER INSURANCE A GRADE COLTS PHELANS 175 v CARISBROOK 1/25
A fascinating day’s play at Hedges Oval sees Carisbrook requiring 151 runs to take first innings points in an important game with Colts Phelans.
Colts batted first, and it was the duo of Rhys Wagstaff and Rhys Egan who were hoping to continue their good form from the week before, having combined to help Colts take an outright victory.
But it was Carisbrook who struck first, removing Egan first ball thanks to a terrific catch from Cole Harris off his own bowling.
Soon, Carisbrook would have a second wicket, with Sebastian Borg run out by Lucas Hurse with the score on nine.
Brook may have had their tails up, but it was Wagstaff who combined well with Luke Tatchell to get Colts back on track.
The duo would put on 107 for the third wicket, with Wagstaff passing his 50.
But Dean Nalder would strike twice with tea on the horizon, with a good piece of wicketkeeping from William Coutts stumping Tatchell for 48, before Nalder caught Graham Taylor’s edge to remove him for a duck.
Wagstaff and Dayne Baker looked to push the pace, with Baker in particular looking good for his 26.
Nalder soon had his third wicket, trapping Baker in front for 26, and this triggered a collapse for Colts.
Brayden Wright soon had his first wicket for Carisbrook, with Harrison Kurzke hitting a ball straight to Martin Mark.
Colts would eventually lose their final four wickets for no score, with Dan McGregor nicking a Hurse delivery to Coutts behind the stumps, Bayden Macintyre ran out by Cooper Mark, Wagstaff ending a good innings on 75 by hitting a ball straight to Atticus Cullinan, and Nick Henderson bowled by Hurse.
Hurse eventually finished as Carisbrook’s best bowler, taking 3/26, while Nalder took 3/44.
Needing to negotiate 18 overs, Carisbrook’s quest to get runs hit a snag when Martin was caught by Egan off Henderson’s bowling for a duck.
But Caleb Cluff and Coutts were able to see off the remainder of Colts’ advances for the rest of the day, and find themselves 1/25 needing a further 151 to take first innings points.
Cluff will resume on 15, while Coutts will begin the day on nine.
Henderson is Colts’ best bowler, with figures of 1/9.
