Probus members from the Maryborough Ladies, Dunolly and Maryborough combined clubs will commemorate Probus Month tomorrow.

Originally slated as a commemoration of the formation of Probus on October 1 back in 2020. Probus Month has grown into a festival showcasing what Probus is about.

Probus is a community organisation for retirees to socially connect with like-minded residents in their local community and create a sense of belonging through activities and special events.

One of these events will invite members from the three local clubs to convene at the Maryborough Harness Racing Club to enjoy the racing festivities tomorrow as well as each others company.

Members have also been asked to dress up in Probus blue and gold in a show of comradery.

According to Maryborough combined Probus president Carol Jackson, this year’s theme of Celebrating Community and Companionship encapsulates what makes the community group so special.

“I’m really excited for the event — it’s promoting fellowship, friendship, food and fun for senior people in the local community,” she said.

“It’s always wonderful to have these events which bring us all together and raise awareness to friends and visitors about Probus.

“If you are a club member, it’s most pleasing to bring a friend and introduce them to what Probus is and for them to enjoy themselves.”

Maryborough Ladies Probus president Meryl James said she hopes the month-long celebration continues to become an annual occurrence locally.

“It’s Probus Month officially and we are keen to celebrate, last year we had a combined luncheon at the Highland Society and it was very successful,” she said.

“We decided from there that each year we would do something combined to commemorate Probus Month.”
