A duathlon involves a run, ride and run course. Event distances were long course — 1.5 kilometre run, 11 km cycle, and 1.5 km run, and short course — 200 metre run, 5 km cycle, and 1.5 km run.

A strong field of experienced and returning triathletes greeted the start line at the commencement of the long course.

Club members Josh Britten, Adam Lowery, and Cooper Mark were keen to produce strong performances in the open male category, while Hayden Bartlett (under 16 male), and Jaclyn Beer (open female) also ready to excel on this course.

All triathletes produced strong performances across the board, excelling in the two duathlon disciplines of running and cycling.

In the end it was Mark who crossed the finish line first in the time of 32.07, Britten in second (32.22), and Lowery in third (38.44) in the open male category.

After sometime away from the sport, it was great to see the improvement in young-gun triathlete Bartlett in the under 16 male category as well.

Bartlett displayed strong endurance as he handled the long course extremely well to post the great time of 37.57 to win this category.

Beer, in her second long course event, also excelled, posting the impressive time of 43.11 to win the open female category.

In the short course, it was Kate Cain and Sophie Mark who participated in the open female category, with both triathletes finding the course to their liking achieving strong times respectively.

In the end it was Mark (20:21) in first place and Cain (24:08) crossing the line in second place.

The club now looks forward to conducting its junior come-and-try triathlon event on Sunday, March 2 from the Maryborough Sports & Leisure Centre and Jack Pascoe Reserve.

The KIDZ Triathlon invites all budding and interested primary school students in the district and beyond to come along and experience the sport of triathlon in a supportive environment.
