It was déjá vu for Carisbrook’s under 18s on Sunday against North Ballarat, while the under 14 team suffered a heartbreak-ing one-point loss to Darley in their final home games of the season.

After losing to North Ballarat by 112 points the week before, the Roosters bettered that winning margin by one point last Sunday as they looked to keep in touch with runaway ladder leader Redan.

The Roosters were able to kick three goals in the first quarter from eight scoring shots, however they were able to put their kicking boots on after that and put on six goals in the second quarter to open up a 62-point half time lead.

They would then ease to victory by scoring four goals in both the third and final quarter, taking a 17.11 (113) to 0.0 (0) win.

For the Lady Redbacks, Rhiannon Carter, Olivia Butler, Mary Fitzgibbon, Zeanna Cassells, Tara Kennedy and Maddison Smith were named best.

The under 14s, for three quarters, looked like pulling off the upset of the season when they led Darley throughout the match, however, a final quarter goal meant that the Devils were able to pinch a one-point victory.

A Rhani Evans goal allowed the Lady Redbacks to get off to the perfect start as they were able to get away to a six-point lead at quarter time.

In what was a tense second and third quarter of the game, neither Carisbrook or Darley could find the goals, with a point to the Devils in the third stanza the only change to the scoreboard in that period of time.

With the Lady Redbacks looking for a mammoth upset win, Darley upped the ante in the final quarter and were able to score their only goal of the game to sneak home.

It was so devastatingly close for the Lady Redbacks but it was an effort they can look back on and be proud of — despite the result, they were able to be very competitive against the best team in the competition.

Ella Gourley, Tamika Loone-Grundy, Evans, Lexey Hoober, Memphis Hoober and Eden Weaver were all named in Carisbrook’s best players.

The under 18s will now have a week off before attacking their final game of the season in two weeks time against Lake Wendouree, while the under 14s will likewise take on the Lakers this week.
