Ladder-leaders Highland Tartan looked like they hadn’t missed a beat over the Christmas Break, taking a commanding 93-39 victory over Maryborough Golf.

Gregory Shay set the tone for Tartan with his 38-6 win over Kort Gay and his Tartan teammates rode his momentum with Garry Coburn besting Graeme Orr 29-19 and Michael Fryar defeating Elizabeth Bucknall 26-14.

Tartan’s closest challengers Dunolly Blue ensured they wouldn’t lose ground at the top of the table, claiming all 16 points in a 75-55 win against forth-placed Highland Gold.

Chris Williams got the ball rolling for his team with a 30-18 victory against Lowen Clarke, and his teammates followed suit in some highly competitive contests.

Tony Galofaro was too good for Paul Gothard, winning 23-16 while Alan Weir managed to sneak past Roy Crawley 22-21.

With Highland Gold and Maryborough Golf losses, Talbot was able to consolidate their position in third, leaving victorious in an entertaining 68-58 encounter with Carisbrook.

The first two legs were split between the two sides, with Talbot’s Chris Crossley taking a close matchup against Ross Gregory 22-18, while Carisbrook’s Judy Cassidy got the better of Barbara Crossley 27-19.

It was Ray Prentice who would seal the result for Talbot, winning 27-13 over Laurence Cassidy.

Defeats for Highland Gold and Maryborough Golf also benefitted Avoca, who are now in touching distance of finals after defeating Dunolly Gold 62-48.

The contest saw some tight matches all around, but Avoca was able to claim all 16 points with Daniel Giddings winning over Wayne Stephens 18-14, Ian Proctor nudging out Jim Haigh 20-18 and Ann Loosmore too good for Fabio Delconte with a 24-16 victory.

Round 11 of midweek pennant will host some intriguing matchups that could heavily factor into the finals picture.

In a match expected to be the game of the round, Talbot will host Highland Tartan as they look to snap the league leader’s eight-game winning streak and keep in touching distance for double chance.

Fifth plays sixth in the chase for the last finals spot as Maryborough Golf will look to replicate their round four victory over Avoca as both teams aim to leapfrog Highland Gold in fourth.

Highland Gold will travel away from the Highland Society, taking on Carisbrook who will look to keep their finals chances alive with a victory.

Two sister teams will battle to cap off the round, as Dunolly Gold will square off against Dunolly Blue.

Charity Round will continue this weekend when Saturday pennant makes it return for Round 12.
