The Maryborough Toy Library is organising a Stay and Play session this weekend to celebrate the erection of a much-needed fence around the facility.

Children will finally be able to participate in outdoor recreational fun when visiting the toy borrowing service on 12-22 Nolan Street, following the installation of a railing separating the area from traffic.

According to the Maryborough Toy Library’s president Kate Cain, the fence, which was put up by the Central Goldfields Shire Council, will make playtime for kids even more enjoyable.

“It makes it safer and better for children who can now play outside with their toys,” she said.

“Now, it’s more welcoming for groups as well as for parents.

“I think it’s vital to have an outdoor space — we’re not like a city library where you borrow a toy and then leave. Instead, we want to be a spot for people to drop in and connect.”

Ms Cain said that socialising element was missing prior to the fence because of limited internal space.

“When children are left to choose what to play with, they often pick the mobile toys on wheel and it’s hard to use them inside,” she said.

“Whereas, outside there’s so much more room for them and they can play together with other kids.”

With an enclosed play area now available, the toy library plans on hosting monthly Stay and Play sessions — starting from this month.

“We are having our [first] session on Saturday and we’re hoping to organise one on the first Saturday of every month after that,” Ms Cain said.

“It would be great to have a regular event for people and kids to come along to because they’ll have an opportunity to meet other families.”

The free Stay and Play event, scheduled for Saturday, April 6, will kickoff at 10.30 am and will run until 12.30 pm.

Children of all ages can now socialise outdoors at the free Stay and Play events.
