Central Victorian Grand Prix held in Maryborough
The Maryborough Gun Club held the Central Victorian Grand Prix on Saturday, with close competitions dominating the day.
In the 25-target single barrel championship to start the day, it was Frankston’s Damien Hutchins who took victory in the Open and AA grade, scoring a perfect 25-from-25 to take the win, with Charlie Galea runner-up in the open grade, while taking out B grade, on 24 shots. A grade was won by Maryborough local Tony Karakizos, while Castle-maine’s Kane Evans took out C grade.
The 50-target double barrel championships saw Maryborough’s Travis Gull shoot superbly, hitting 96 shots to take the open class. Hutchins took out the AA class, while Bendigo’s Lachlan O’Connor-Hudson took the A class with 78 hits from 79 shots. Castlemaine’s Chris Langridge took the B class, while Beaufort’s Jamie Pappaluca won the C grade class.
In the 25 target points score championship, WVCTC’s Steve Trembath scored a perfect 99 hits from 99 shots to win both the Open and AA grade, while Carl Freiberg took the A grade class with 96 hits from 99 shots. Frankston’s Rob Williams took out B grade, while Maryborough’s Mark Passalick won C grade.
The overall shooting saw Hutchins hit 148 out of his 150 shots throughout the morning, while Horsham’s Ashley Bolwell hit the most shots in AA grade, with 156 out of 160.
St Arnaud’s Matthew Chalmers hit the most shots in A grade with 146, while Williams hit the most shots in B grade with 143 shot hit. Evans hit the most shots in C grade with 134 shots.
In the junior grade, Beaufort’s Briley Williams hit 125 shots to take the class, while the ladies competition saw MCC’s Megan Trembath hit 140 shots. The veteran class saw WVCTC’s Chris Brown take the win with 142 shots hit.
The Maryborough Gun Club will also soon honour long-time member Craig Jennings with the Craig Jennings Memorial Cup, to be held on December 1.
The club gained support from the Jennings family, as well as McPherson’s Printing Group and the Highland Society, with the competition open to all shooters.
