Celebrate womanhood, surrounded by change makers and like-minded ladies at a local luncheon next week — with the event acting as a launchpad for a critical domestic violence resource.
Organised by a group of Carisbrook residents, including councillor Anna De Villiers, the International Women’s Day lunch will be held at the Maryborough Highland Society on March 8.
The occasion is dedicated to highlight the achievements of women, according to Cr De Villiers.
“It’ll be really empowering,” she said.
“There’s going to be conversations around women’s [successes] and we will also address some important issues.
“We have some great presentations and speakers set up as well.”
On the day, attendees will hear from two significant figures — Member for Western Victoria, Dr Sarah Mansfield and rural GP Dr Adele van dr Merwe.
Local organisations, Zonta and the Rotary Club are also going to take up the stage, with the latter using the platform to launch their new and rebranded sayNO2family violence website.
“It’ll have information about services from the area that are available to women like Orange Door and the Maryborough District Health Service,” Maryborough Rotary Club president Garry Higgins said.
“The website’s not only aimed at victims of family violence but also the parents and loved ones of the women that are [going through it] because quite often they don’t know how they can support their kids or friends.
“So, it was important for us to do this and make all that information technologically accessible.”
Those interested in attending the lunch, which will kickoff from 12 pm onwards, are encouraged to book a spot immediately, with tickets costing $75 — covering a two course meal and a glass of bubbles.
Funds will also go towards supporting the Carisbrook Historical Society.

In addition to the luncheon, there’s also a high tea program that people can attend — hosted by the Women Out & About group, the event will take place at The Station Cafe on the same day from 2 pm.
Tickets cost $60 and will include a complimentary bubbly, high tea with tea or coffee, a talk from a guest speaker, and awards and prizes.
The dress code is a frock in either green, white or purple shades.
Bookings are essential as seats are limited and can be made by contacting Margaret Flowers on 5461-3312.
