PHIL HOOPER INSURANCE A GRADE CARISBROOK yet to bat v MARYBOROUGH 248
Maryborough enjoyed one of their best days of the season to put together 248 runs with the bat against Carisbrook on day one of their two-dayer at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve.
The Owls opened with a new opening batting partnership, and it paid dividends as they revelled in their best opening partnership of the season, putting on 125 runs without reply.
Much of that was attirbuted to Marc Cassidy, who, alongside Ben Hoban, was able to put together a stunning knock of 97 off 116 deliveries as he scored at a quick pace.
However, he was dismissed, bowled by Dean Nalder, just short of his well-deserved century.
It continues a run of unlucky form for Cassidy in the 90s over the last 12 months, having been stranded on 96 not out against Natte Yallock last year in the Owls’ A reserve clash, as well as similarly remaining stranded on an unbeaten 99 against Colts Phelans, also in A reserve.
Carisbrook had a pathway back into the game when Ritik Yadav claimed the wicket of Mitch McClure for eight, and when Hoban was trapped in front for LBW for 40 by Nalder, Carisbrook had the Owls 3/158.
But Martin Dell and Steven Shovan went to work to ensure Maryborough were still very much in front for the day.
Dell continued his good form, scoring 42, while Shovan was also putting together a reasonable knock, scoring 18 off 17.
Dell’s dismissal, caught by Caleb Cluff off the bowling of James Adam, triggered a late collapse for the Owls from 3/213, and it was Adam at the thick of it all.
Adam took a second quick wicket, with Shovan trapped in front for LBW, and Nalder soon had his third wicket, bowling Daniel Leahy for 12.
Adam had an incredible finish to the day, taking the wickets of Pravin Yadav for seven, Lachie Condie for nine and Liam Maffescioni for a duck as he finished with figures of 5/17 — the third best for the season.
With Jasper Trickey run out for one, the Owls finished on 248 — their second best score of the season behind the 263 they scored against Colts Phelans in round seven.
Sam Thomson remained at the crease, unbeaten on five.
Nalder finished with figures of 3/42 off 16 overs.
