It’ll be anything but a silent night tomorrow as local choir members get ready to jingle in the festive season with an evening filled with merry and music.

The annual Maryborough Community Bank Carols is set to get underway this Saturday and is promising to be an event with something on offer for everyone.

Presented by the MaryboroughTheatre Company, the show will feature a mix of classic and modern hymns, according to the group’s Natalie Wardrop.

“We try and make it different every year,” Ms Wardrop said.

“There’s a really good blend of popular carols as well as some of the more newer ones. We also have the Maryborough City Brass Band performing and we’ll be singing along with them — there’s a lot of variety this time.

“It’s always been such a positive experience organising this because no matter what we do, the support and energy from the audience makes it a big success.”

With singers aged between seven and 90, Ms Wardrop said that at its heart, the event was about getting everyone involved.

“This show isn’t just for Christmas, it’s about that larger community spirit,” she said.

“I think it’s about celebrating our [interconnectedness] and togetherness — that’s something you can see in our carolers because they have come together from all age groups.

“I really encourage people to attend because it’s family friendly andeveryone will enjoy. It’s also a great opportunity to be part of the community and see what wonderful people Maryborough has.”

For the community bank’s customer relationship manager Aley Earl, programs like these are an important fixture in regional towns.

“I feel really proud, just knowing that the work we do can assist events like this to run,” Ms Earl said.

“It’s so great to have this on because it gives locals an avenue to celebrate the year that’s been, while also recognising the talent in the town.

“It will be a really fun social night and it’s definitely not to be missed.”

The free event, featuring food trucks and a visit from Santa, will be held tomorrow at the Maryborough Station Domain, at 5.30 pm for a6 pm start.
