Carisbrook’s continued improvement will be put to the test again this week when they welcome ladder-leading Redan to Carisbrook Recreation Reserve.

There has already been a lot of improvement shown by the Lady Redbacks this season, and now they’ll get a chance to do it again against a team that has well and truly dominated the early part of the season.

The Lady Redbacks showed their hand last week against a Darley team that has similarly dominated the early part of the season, with the Devils realistically only getting away in the first and third quarters, kicking 11 goals across both of those quarters.

Still, the 107-point final margin, as well as the 25 scoring shots Darley took throughout the day, has represented an enormous improvement for the Lady Redbacks over the last 12 months, and they’ll be hoping to have another good, competitive outing with Redan this week.

Carisbrook played Redan three times last season, with the Lady Redbacks putting in three reasonable efforts.

The first occasion was their best, margin-wise, losing by 98 points in round five, before losses of 133 points and 154 points in their two remaining clashes at home.

Meantime, Carisbrook’s under 16s team will look to take the fight right up to the Ballarat Swans this weekend after a good effort against Bacchus Marsh.

Although the Lady Redbacks were down by 25 points at half time, the team were able to keep pace with the Cobras in what was a high-scoring second half, scoring four goals, with two each coming in the third and fourth quarters, before eventually losing by 28 points.

Amber Hogarth, Rhani Evans, Emme Johnson, Remi Jardine, Tamika Loone-Grundy and Sofia Rametta were all named in the best, with Evans kicking two goals.

This week also starts a run of five consecutive home games for the Lady Redbacks in the under 16 competition.
