MARYBOROUGH ROVERS 3.5 (23) def by CARISBROOK 25.25 (175)
Carisbrook warmed up for their hotly-anticipated grand final rematch with Harcourt by putting Rovers to the sword by 152 points at Princes Park.
But, with a bit of perspective needed, it is worth noting that Rovers, in this corresponding clash last year, lost this game by 296 points, which is a marker of the improvement the club has shown in-between seasons.
Brook were able to kick six of the first seven goals in the opening stanza to open up a 33-point lead at the first break, then extended on it in the second with seven goals to one to lead by 70 at the long break.
A further five goals to one in the third quarter saw Brook break past the 100-point margin by the last change, before kicking seven goals, while holding Rovers to a solitary behind, to finish strong winners.
The depth in Carisbrook’s lineup at the moment has been outlined by dominant players at every line. Zak Rinaldi once again took control of the game, while Harry Butler continues to show his versatility. Andrew Toan, Brad Horsham, Adam Hurse and Steven Patterson were also their better players.
For Rovers, Dylan Evans, David Le Poidevin, Alex Mahony, Bailey Evans, Marshall Murray and Tyson Randall were named as their better players for the day.
