Both teams made multiple changes ahead of this match, as Alice McManus returned for Maldon to replace Chloe Davey and Tayah Doyle. Carisbrook brought up Elise Mottram and Holly Nichols from B grade for depth and welcomed back Millie Cassidy for Katie Bilton, Laura Hurse and Chloe Egan.

The Redbacks couldn’t have asked for a better start at home, storming out of the gates to lead 26-2 at quarter time.

The shooting duo of Abbey Nalder and Jordan McClure wasted no time getting acclimatised at Bill Woodfull Recreation Reserve, scoring 13 goals each from a combined 30 attempts.

Maldon’s midcourt consisting of Claire Kelly, Sophie Bennett and Emma Webb led the Bombers to improve in the second quarter, but the Redbacks remained in control, extending the margin to 37 by half time.

While Nalder top-scored with 12 in the quarter, McClure continued to cause headaches for the Bombers’ defence, converting all eight of her shot attempts.

The Bombers shooters also stepped up in the second quarter, combining for seven goals from 10 attempts.

The Redbacks’ momentum wasn’t slowed down at half time, winning the third term 25-6 as they continued to control the contest.

McClure resumed her automatic shooting touch from the second period, going a perfect nine for nine while Nalder again top-scored with 16 goals.

Maldon’s shooters made the most of their limited opportunities, netting six goals from their eight attempts.

Carisbrook completed the finishing touches on a strong performance by scoring 24 in the final term, entering the King’s Birthday weekend full of confidence with a tough run of fixtures after the week off.

Nalder and McClure continued their fantastic form until the final siren, with Nalder finishing the game with 56 goals after scoring 15 in the last period while McClure added nine to score 39 goals, registering only three misses for the match.
