CAMPBELLS CREEK 2.1 (13) def by CARISBROOK 35.25 (235)
Carisbrook proved much too strong for Campbells Creek, recording a 222-point victory which keeps the Redbacks on top of the ladder.
However, they were made to fight in the early stages, with Campbells Creek impressing with their pressure and intensity around the ball, particularly in the early stages. They were rewarded with two goals in the first quarter, kicked through Joel Wootton and River Murray.
Carisbrook were able to make do with their chances though, and kicked six goals in the opening quarter to take a 30-point lead at the first change.
The Redbacks then skipped away afterwards and showed their wares as one of the main contenders for the season ahead, kicking 10 goals in the second quarter to open up the margin to 97 points at the long break.
Carisbrook were inaccurate in the third quarter, kicking seven goals from 15 scoring shots, but were still able to increase their lead to 146 points at the final break.
The last quarter saw the Redbacks at their best, kicking 12 goals to eventually break the 200-point barrier for the second time in succession.
Nicholas Wright was adjudged the Redbacks’ best player, kicking four goals, while the combination of Ash Munari and Anthony Zelencich kicked 17 goals between them. Jackson Bowen, Harry Butler, Zak Rinaldi and Thomas Gardam were also praised by Luke Treacy.
Creek never gave up despite the gulf in class between the two sides, and Kris Bagley would have especially been thrilled with their first quarter application.
Mitchell Stevens, Nicholas O’Brien, Max Stewart, Jyanni Pollard, Caleb May and Benjamin Carson were those that caught Bagley’s eye throughout the day.
