Newstead hit the court showing a lot of promise in the first quarter of play, holding the home side and match favourites to just 12 goals, two ahead of Stead on 10.

However, Carisbrook started to show why it’s a finals competitor once again this year in the second, doubling their score out to 24 while holding the visitors to just six goals.

After the half time break, Carisbrook opened the floodgates.

Almost doubling their score, the Redbacks well and truly stung, almost doubling their score out to 44 points in what was a demoralising third quarter for the Kangaroos, who were only able to post three goals.

Newstead rallied in the fourth, scoring eight goals in a much stronger performance, however Carisbrook had begun their steamroll, increasing their goal count to 65 by the end of the match — a lead of 38 goals.

Carisbrook’s duo of Jordan MacIlwain and Abbey Nalder proved a formidable duo in the attacking end, scoring 35 and 28 goals at an accuracy of 83 and 62 percent respectively.

Defensive pressure from Newstead limited what could have been a much worse onslaught from the Redbacks however, with Carisbrook missing a total 24 shots under the ring.

The same can be said for Newstead however, with Carisbrook’s defensive pressure also high, limiting the side’s Brianna Jury and Tayla Gale to 11 and 16 goals a piece.
