CARISBROOK (69) def CAMPBELLS CREEK (28)

It was Carisbrook’s day at the Carisbrook Recreation Reserve as they marked their first competitive game for premiership points on their new netball courts with a 41-goal victory over Campbells Creek.

The Redbacks were able to put together their best performance of the early season so far by putting away the Magpies gradually, ensuring they would be one of four teams to remain unbeaten.

Carisbrook were able to clear away to a seven-goal lead in the first quarter, with the Redbacks making a change in their goal circle, with Paige McLean and Andrea Schafer the combination for the first time this season. Schafer scored nine goals, while McLean added six, while for Campbells Creek, Lillie Wrigley scored on five occasions, and Molly Kennedy three.

The Redbacks continued to extend their lead in the second term as they proved to be too strong for the Magpies, with McLean scoring on eight occasions, and Schafer seven, while for Campbells Creek, Wrigley scored four times, and Kennedy three.

The third quarter saw Abbey Nalder return to the goal circle after spending the first half playing at wing attack, showing how powerful the Redbacks’ offense can be. Nalder acquitted herself immediately, scoring 15 goals, while McLean scored three times. For Campbells Creek, Wrigley scored five times, and Kennedy three, as the Redbacks led 48-23 at the final change.

The final quarter saw Carisbrook put in their most powerful shift of the day, scoring 21 goals and restrictng Campbells Creek to five. Nalder scored 10 goals to take her tally to 25, with McLean adding 11 to finish with 28 goals. At the other end, Wrigley scored four goals to finish with 18 goals, while Kennedy scored once.

Carisbrook will now look to back up their performance and make it four from four against Newstead, while there’s a lot of excitement for Campbells Creek as they open up their own netball courts after a much-needed revamp as they host Maldon.
