An intriguing game awaits at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve tomorrow, with Carisbrook looking to make it two on the trot, while Maryborough are out to get back onto the winners list.

The Brookers made a bit of a statement in being able to defeat Beaufort in their first game back in the competition, and if they can make it two on the trot, they would firm for a potential spot in the grand final.

However, the Owls will be very keen to bounce back, particularly off the back of a batting performance which saw them struggle to make runs against Colts last week, scoring 60 runs in their 20 overs for the loss of six wickets.

Much of the Carisbrook victory last Saturday can be attributed to the hot start that vice captain Nick Broad enjoyed with the ball, as he was able to take three quick wickets to leave the Crows behind the eightball, én route to a five-wicket haul.

Alongside him, however, there were also some other impressive performances.

Jarryd Coghlan performed strongly at the top of the order, anchoring the Brookers’ innings with 30 crucial runs, while captain William Coutts and Caleb Cluff garnered some important late runs.

Brook currently have the most runs of the season by virtue of posting their 119 runs, and will be looking to continue scoring at a solid rate to keep their good start going.

Maryborough’s young batting lineup will need to navigate the likes of Broad, Cole Harris and Leigh Koop in the early stages to give themselves the best possible chance of securing their first win.

A lot is riding on Mitch McClure’s bat this season, and he was able to top score with 18 against Colts, but when he was bowled by Dan McGregor, the ability to score quick runs was lost.

Troy Bursill and Jackson Goodwin scored 12 runs apiece, but it was to no avail, as they were unable to shake the consistent line and length bowling of Colts’ experienced lineup.

However, there were some positives to come out of the game — none bigger than youngster Jasper Trickey, who, in his first full game of A grade cricket, was able to take a five-wicket haul — an extremely impressive feat.

A win will be of the utmost importance for Maryborough, given they’ll have to navigate a double-header against Laanecoorie Dunolly next week, both in a one-dayer and a T20.
