After successfully relaunching their senior women’s program last week with a competitive effort against Bacchus Marsh, the focus for the Carisbrook Lady Redbacks will be on East Point at Eastern Oval on Sunday.
The Lady Redbacks will be looking for more goals and a four-quarter effort this week as the team continue to adapt to playing together, and will have a good opportunity to do so against East Point, a team who failed to score against reigning premiers Redan last week.
In their first game back in the Ballarat Football League Women’s competition, the Lady Redbacks had a brilliant second quarter, scoring two goals, but were otherwise rendered scoreless throughout the remaining three quarters.
Nevertheless, considering it was the first time many of the team have played together, it was a valiant effort, as they eventually went down by 42 points.
Amali Allbutt, Sherriden Byrne, Danae Every, Anika Munn and Grace Love were the better players for the Lady Redbacks, with Byrne and Gillian Tierney the goalkickers for the afternoon.
They will be looking for more scoring shots this week, and will likely get the opportunity, given East Point conceded 37 scoring shots against Redan.
The under 16 girls will be making their first appearance of the season after sitting out last week due to the bye as they take on Ballarat Swans at Alfredton Recreation Reserve.
They will look to make a positive start to the season and will have a good chance to do so, given the Swans went down by 51 points to Bacchus Marsh last week.
