CARISBROOK (65) def NEWSTEAD (28)
Spurred on by the presence of Madi Browne on the sideline, Carisbrook powered their way to a 37-goal victory over Newstead, holding on to third place on the ladder.
The Redbacks’ victory came thanks to some impressive defensive work, particularly with their intercepting game through mid-court, allowing them to get some good looks at goal.
A fast start for the Redbacks ensured they would have control of the game from the outset, scoring 17 goals while restricting the Steaders to six goals.
The Redbacks’ defensive performance would be even better in the second quarter as they restricted Newstead to just five goals, while scoring 15 themselves, allowing them to take a 32-11 lead into half time.
In a higher scoring third quarter, Carisbrook continued proceedings with a 19-goal third quarter, while Newstead had their best return of the day, scoring 10 goals. Carisbrook led 51-21 at three-quarter-time.
In a relatively low-scoring final period, the Redbacks were able to take every quarter, scoring 14 goals to seven to ensure they would run out 65-28 winners on a special day for the club.
Amelia Jarvis proved to be best after switching to center for this game, while Georgia Bell and Andrea Schafer were also impressive for Carisbrook. Schafer led the way with 38 goals.
For Newstead, Kirby Kneebone, Layla Benson-Zepnick and Lillie Spragg gave their all, with Kneebone scoring 15 goals to lead the way for the Steaders.
