Carisbrook finished a rather impressive home stand with a competitive effort against Lake Wendouree.

While the end margin was 24 points, it has shown the continued improvement on the Lady Redbacks throughout the season, with the club reducing their losing margin to the Lakers from 184 to 24 in the space of 11 games.

The Lady Redbacks had their chances early, but could only score three behinds to open the game, while Lake Wendouree scored one goal to take a three-point lead into the first change.

The Lakers started to kick clear in the second term, scoring two goals to two behinds to increase their lead to 14 points at half time.

In a contested third quarter, no goals were scored, but the Lady Redbacks’ defence were able to shut down the Lakers scoring power, restricting them to three behinds for the term as it was a 17-point margin at the final break.

Carisbrook again had opportunities in the last term but were unable to score a goal, with two behinds taking them to seven points without a goal. In the meantime, the Lakers were able to kick a goal to seal the game.

Nevertheless, the results show how much Carisbrook have improved, with the fact that they were in the game for a significant amount testament to how much they have learned throughout the season, ahead of their final game next week against Darley.

Anika Munn, Julianne Baldock, Olivia Butler, Sherriden Byrne, Danae Every and Dusty Taylor-Irwin were all named in the best players for Carisbrook.
