NAVARRE 8.8 (56) def by CARISBROOK 11.7 (73)
In what finished as the game of the round, Carisbrook won by seventeen points in a game that the lead changed hands on numerous occasions and it was only in the dying stages that the Redbacks managed to kick away thanks to some magic from Tim Rinaldi.
Navarre got off to a flying start with the first two goals of the game through Aiden Lee and Jack Jess and the Grasshoppers were up and about.
Cam Rinaldi was playing his first game for the Redbacks and his snapshot over his shoulder was straight through the big sticks to reduce the margin to five points.
Daniel Reading found space from his opponent and took the opportunity to goal for Navarre, only for Tim to kick his first of four goals to make it a six-point deficit for the Redbacks at quarter time.
It was goal for goal in the second term with the lead changing four times in an extremely exciting contest with the Grasshoppers leading by four points at half time.
The Redbacks took control of the game in the premiership quarter, kicking four goals to one to lead at the final change by 12 points and were noticeably confident going into the final quarter.
This confidence was quickly snuffed out when Aiden Lee goaled in the first minute for Navarre, followed by another goal to Brady Tlllig from the next centre bounce and scores were level just two minutes into the final stanza.
The Grasshoppers missed a goal and led by a point shortly after, and then there was lots of back and forth with not much scoring.
Late in the term, Tim became involved in the final three goals of the game. He handballed out from the goal square to Anden Lever who snapped truly. Then Tim kicked two goals in succession, including a miraculous piece of work in the goal square, when he fended a player with his left hand, gathered the ball with his right hand and stuck it on his boot for the sealer.
Adam Hurse was difficult to bypass down back for Carisbrook and was named as their best player, followed by Tim, Patrick Van der Pol, Jackson Bowen, Cohen Leech and Andrew Toan.
Navarre named Tillig, Nick Birthisel, who was very solid in defence, Dustin Holmes, Oliver Notting, Wil Clough, and Reading as their better players, with eight goal scorers kicking one goal each.
