Carisbrook hit the scoreboard in their most competitive match of the season
While it may not be reflected in the final scores, the Carisbrook Lady Redbacks played their most competitive game of the season last Sunday, going down by an eventual 77 points.
It marks the fifth consecutive loss of the season for the local side, but a marked improvement on where they started the season — with their loss to East Point the lowest margin yet.
Making the journey to White Flat on Sunday, the visiting Redbacks outfit were overpowered by the home side, who kicked 26 points to Carisbrook’s nil.
In the second quarter, Carisbrook had its opportunity to bite back and converted this to a single point — the first time the Lady Redbacks have managed a score all season.
This wasn’t enough however, as East Point used their home ground advantage to stack on another five goals, increasing their lead out to 56 points.
The jubilation of having scored their first point for the season saw the Redbacks rally in the second half, and while they were unable to score, the pressure was certainly felt by the home side.
East Point were only able to add seven points, the lowest of the match, to their total in the third quarter in a hard fought 20 minutes of footy.
In the final quarter, they increased the margin out further by two goals and two points, lower than their scoring across the first half.
The Redbacks’ Charlotte Metters, Emme Johnson, Danika Anderson and Maddison Smith performed well on Sunday and were particularly driven in ball contests across the ground.
These four players will look to perform well once again this Sunday, when Carisbrook host Lake Wendouree at home.
This will be a throwback to Carisbrook’s round one clash, where they went down by Wendouree to the tune of 84 points.
In the Redbacks’ favour this time around however is the home ground advantage and local support they’re sure to garner.
Looking back at their round one game against Lake Wendouree, Carisbrook were very competitive in the first quarter, holding their opponents to just 17 points, but were unable to get themselves on the scoreboard to level things out.
No doubt Carisbrook will be eager to build on their one point last weekend, and snag a handful of goals against their closest neighbour on the ladder.
