Carisbrook were unable to prevent a 35-point loss to Lake Wendouree in challenging conditions at CE Brown Reserve.
Ballarat’s typical bitterly cold weather came to the fore across the weekend, and it was the Lakers who adapted better to the weather.
Nevertheless, it was game on in the first term, with the Lakers only scoring one goal from five scoring shots, which meant that it was just 10 points at the first change.
However, the Lakers were a bit more economical in the second term, and made their shots count, recording two goals from their two shots at goal to clear away to a 22-point lead at the main break.
The Lakers started to power away from the Lady Redbacks, but were still very inaccurate in front of goal in the third term, kicking one goal from eight shots at goal, which meant that it was a 35-point margin at the last change.
Remarkably, neither team was able to score in the last term, with Carisbrook enjoying their best defensive quarter of the day, meaning that the margin stayed at 35 points, with Lake Wendouree winning 4.11 (35) to no score.
Anika Munn continued her excellent season for the Lady Redbacks, providing plenty of power through the midfield, while Olivia Butler played her role alongside her. Ashlyne McInnes, Jade Cameron, Grace Brady and Sarah Lynch completed the list of best players for Carisbrook.
The under 16s unfortunately remain winless, but put in a decent effort against the second-placed Storm at Alfredton Recreation Reserve.
Most of the damage was done early in the piece, with Storm scoring four goals from nine scoring shots in the first term to no score from the Lady Redbacks, which saw them trail by 29 points at the first change.
However, Carisbrook improved defensively as the game went on, conceding two goals in the second term, while also scoring a behind to leave the margin at 42 points at the main break.
It was a similar story in the third term, with Storm scoring another two goals, making it 57 points at the final change.
Storm stayed scoreless in the final term, while Carisbrook added a behind to make it a 56-point game by the final siren, 8.10 (58) to 0.2 (2).
Chloe Wyatt was named as Carisbrook’s best, while Remi Jardine, Olivia Rogers, Georgina Bates, Tamika Loone-Grundy and Emme Johnson were also named in the best.
