Carisbrook dismantle Creek with 37-goal onslaught
An electrifying 16-goal haul from Tim Rinaldi was the apex of a goal-kicking extravaganza by Carisbrook, who obliterated Campbells Creek by a whopping 235 points.
With 12 different goalkickers, the Redbacks surpassed Trentham’s benchmark of 213 points the week before, finishing with their highest score since they booted 337 against the Magpies in round 15 of the 2023 season.
Rinaldi was the star of the remarkable occasion, who’s now well and truly on pace to surpass the prestigious 100 goal mark, a feat last done by Redbacks great Anthony Zelencich in the aforementioned 2023 campaign.
For a team that’s taken incredible strides this season, culminating in a long-awaited victory a fortnight ago, Saturday was a heavy case of whiplash for Campbells Creek, who looked to replicate their competitive showing against Navarre from the week prior.
Following in the footsteps of other local products Archie Sanders and Chardy Bond, Locky Llewellyn made his senior debut on Saturday for Carisbrook, who wasted no time piling on the points.
In the blink of an eye, the Redbacks kicked 65 unanswered points against the helpless Magpies defence, already in complete control by quarter time.
Unfortunately for Campbells Creek, that was only the appetiser of things to come, as Carisbrook continued to dominate the clearance battle, providing seemingly endless opportunities for their red-hot forward line to continue the on-slaught.
Jack Larkin provided a highlight for the Magpies with a second-quarter goal, but that was surrounded by a sea of 12 Carisbrook majors as the margin already reached 134 points at half time.
Credit to Campbells Creek, they managed to limit the damage in the third quarter, conceding a relatively permissible 42 points.
However, the Redbacks cranked the scoring volume back up to 100 in the final term, with nine of their astounding 16 scoring shots splitting the big sticks.
Alongside Rinaldi’s historic day, Cooper Driscoll and Ricky Pearson booted five and four goals each, while Thomas Gardam, Blake Matthews and Angus McKinna all had a pair of majors.
The Redbacks had plenty to choose from for their best players, naming Patrick Taranto, Rinaldi, Matt Bilton, Gardam, Driscoll and McKinna as their key standouts.
Dylan Stevens, James Haber, Isaac Fletcher, Larkin, Mitchell Stevens and Tyson Williams all battled hard in a day to forget for Campbells Creek.
