TALBOT 5.4 (34) def by CARISBROOK 18.20 (128)
Carisbrook kept the pressure on Harcourt in the race for the minor premiership, scoring a 94-point victory over Talbot.
The Redbacks made a stellar start to kick five goals from 11 scoring shots in the first term while rendering the Hawks goalless.
Another six goals from the Redbacks helped them romp to a 57-point lead at the main break, although the Hawks were much more competitive in the second term themselves, adding three goals.
The Hawks’ third quarter was their best of the afternoon, kicking two goals, while holding Carisbrook to three, as the margin crept up to 65 points at the final change.
But Carisbrook returned to their devastating best in the final term, kicking four goals to nil to blow the margin out beyond 15 goals.
Another six goals from Anthony Zelencich kept alive his chances of scoring 100 goals, and with games still to come against bottom two teams Royal Park and Campbells Creek, he will back himself to get the 26 goals he needs to get to the milestone for the first time.
Thomas Gardam is finding good form at the right time of the year for the Redbacks, and he was best on ground on Saturday, alongside Ash Munari, Blake Matthews, Lachlan Edwards, Zak Rinaldi and Andrew Toan.
Matthew Bond fought hard from limited opportunities for the Hawks, kicking three goals, while Trent Barras, Jude McGuire, Jaylan White, Adam Scott, Lachlan Ratcliff and Zach Graham were all named in their best players.
