CARISBROOK (71) def TALBOT (33)
Carisbrook strengthened their hold on third position on the MCDFNL A grade ladder with a strong 38-goal victory over Talbot on Saturday afternoon.
Their win was of great importance, as coupled with Harcourt’s 20-goal victory over Maryborough Rovers, means they have a five percent gap on the Lions in third ahead of the last round of the home-and-away season next weekend.
A fast start was critical for the Redbacks, getting away to a 15-goal buffer after the opening change thanks to a 22-goal to seven run, and they increased their lead to 27 goals at the main break after scoring a further 19 goals to seven.
Talbot came out of the main break rejuvenated and played their best quarter of the afternoon, scoring 11 goals while restricting Carisbrook to 14.
However, it was the Redbacks’ day. A 16-goal to eight last quarter saw them run out comfortable 71-33 winners.
Georgia Bell benefitted from a strong run in front of goal, with her 37 goals earning her best on court for the Redbacks. Alongside her, Elise Mottram defended stoutly and Andrea Schafer also polled well, scoring 34 goals.
For the Hawks, Aimee Burbidge was their best, defending well and providing great drive from their defensive third, while Elise Decaria was strong in front of goal, scoring 19 goals to lead the way. Amanda Swanson had a great battle with Schafer and Bell throughout the day, with her efforts recognised by the Talbot coaching staff.
