This year, the spirit of Christmas is coming to Carisbrook in full swing — promising to be a joyful time, following a challenging period for the town.

The Carisbrook Disaster Recovery Committee Inc (CDRC) along with the Carisbrook Lion’s Club, are hosting a Christmas Night Market Festival this weekend to bring the community together, marking the start of the festive season.

For Carisbrook locals, the last few years have been marred by the pandemic and more recently, the October 2022 deluge which saw the township being evacuated.

“[This upcoming] market will create a sense of comradeship, uniting residents that over the years have been impacted by mother nature and COVID-19 — which has affected people both mentally and physically,” CDRC president Carolyn Sinclair said.

“We are endeavouring to stimulate greater cohesion and connection within the Carisbrook community by providing an opportunity for residents to come together and get to know each other.”
On the day, visitors will be able to kick off the merriment with plenty of options to choose from — a variety of stalls, food trucks and entertainment sites will be set up, with one special feature later in the evening.

“[There] will be jumping castles, Lions mini trains, the Serendipity Singersgroup, face painting and much more,” Ms Sinclair said.

“[People should] support the disadvantaged and vulnerable within our community by participating in the event — free activities will be part of the event to ensure accessibility to those experiencing hardship.

“Weather permitting we’ll have an outdoor cinema showcasing the Grinch Christmas themed movie and Santa will also be making an appearance.”

The free event will get underway this Saturday, December9 from 3 pm onwards at the Carisbrook Market Reserve on Green Street.

Organisers are urging people to carry cash and are also reminding visitors that the event will be alcohol-free.
