A powerful final quarter propelled Carisbrook to their sixth consecutive victory to open season 2023 — but this was by far their biggest fight.

In fact, it was Lexton — looking to repeat their September heroics against the Redbacks — who enjoyed the better of the first three quarters.

Thirteen goals to eight gave the Tigers a solid lead to start the game, but the Redbacks slowly but surely started to reel them in after that.

Carisbrook scored 10 goals to the Tigers’ seven to reduce the lead to two goals going into the main break.

A high-scoring third quarter saw Carisbrook score 14 goals, while Lexton added 13, meaning that the Tigers turned for home holding a one-goal lead.

But it was all Carisbrook in the final quarter, scoring 17 goals, while holding Lexton to eight, as they successfully reversed the preliminary final result from last year in taking an eight-goal win.

Paige McLean led all scorers for the game, scoring 25 goals for Carisbrook, while Andrea Schafer added a further 24.

For Lexton, Rachel Phelan scored 21 goals, while Leesa Donhardt added 20.
