Carz and Coffee’s recent events have rapidly grown in participation and popularity.

Following a higher than anticipated turn out at their recent event, Carz and Coffee will be returning this weekend to raise money for the Hows family, who were recently impacted by a tragic house fire.

Almost a month ago, father of five Damon Hows tragically died as the result of a house fire in Barr Street, Maryborough.

Following the tragedy, Carz and Coffee are set to raise funds for the family and, with the event’s increasing popularity, will also make the most of a new location this weekend.

“There will be a voluntary gold coin donation, but you can give more if you like, we are quite touched by [the house fire],” event organiser Kelly Aitken said.

“We’ve also relocated to Coronation Park, it’s more family friendly and we want Carz and Coffee to keep growing. Last month, we even had people coming up from Melbourne and from Geelong, it was amazing.”

Numerous highly anticipated raffles will be drawn with prizes awarded to the best cars returning to the event.

“We are thinking of best late model and best classic. We did one at our January event and it really added a sparkle and sizzle,” she said.

These prizes are to include all enthusiasts from older cars to recent models.

“We have a brand called Wurst, who are very high quality, they have stepped forward and giving out two big prizes,” Ms Aitken said.

Other prizes have been provided by the Maryborough Highland Society, ASQ and Maryborough Tyre Service.

There will be many other prizes available on the day, which Ms Aitken hopes will encourage as many car enthusiasts and spectators as possible.

“How good do the cars look all lined up together? Some of the cars take the owners two hours to get prepared. People come from everywhere, they are really passionate about cars and I just think that is beautiful,” she said.

While the number of cars and people attending has increased over time, Ms Aitken said supporting good causes in the community is still an important part of hosting these events.

“When something happens in the community, we are there,” she said.

The event will be held on Sunday, March 9 from 10 am until 12 pm.

“Everyone is welcome, we have a food truck and of course, coffee,” Ms Aitken said.
