2023 marks the 150th year of Timor Primary School, and to celebrate the occasion the school is calling for locals to share original class photos to be compiled in a special publication.

The school was established in March 1873, with an enrolment of more than 200 squeezed into the school room of the Wesleyan Church.

The current school building was opened in 1880 but required extensions soon after as enrolments increased in excess of 600 students at the height of mining activity in the area.

In efforts to put together a publication, Timor teacher Shandelle Wood said the school is calling on anyone with original class photos to bring them forward for scanning.

“While the school has a number of early images from 1930 and earlier, many are photocopies and are not suitable for reproduction,” she said.

“There are very few images from 1930-1990 on record.

“We’re also seeking information on any notable people who have attended the school.

“While we’re aware of a number of VFL footballers who were born in Timor, the school has been unable to verify their attendance at Timor Primary School and seeks further clarification on these men.”

Anyone with images or information can call the school on 5461-2595, email shandelle.wood@ education.vic.gov.au or call into the school at 395 Bet Bet Creek Road to have images scanned on the spot.
