The 31st Energy Breakthrough (EB), rolling into town next month, is gearing up to be a community-driven event with organisers looking to get more volunteers behind the wheel.
More than a thousand people are involved in making EB a success year after year — including businesses, volunteers, schools, parents, sporting clubs, community organisations, tourism operators, sponsors and Central Goldfields Shire Council (CGSC) staff.
Mayor Grace La Vella said the event’s success and popularity was testament to the support of the wider community.
“For a rural community with a population of just over 13,000 people we should be very proud of the way our community bands together to deliver this significant [event],” she said.
“Whether you are a sporting group who provides food at the campsites, a volunteer who provides event support during the event, a sponsor who provides funding support, a local cafe or restaurant who welcomes visitors with great coffee and food, a local business who provides event infrastructure, a tourism operator who accommodates visitors to our shire or a local school who has a competing team — thank you.
“If you are a community member who has never been involved before, or perhaps you are thinking ‘what exactly is EB’ I implore you to get involved through volunteering. There is a great sense of fun, excitement and camaraderie during the event and I can guarantee you’ll love being part of it all.”
This year’s event — sponsored by the Community Bank Avoca, Maryborough and St Arnaud Bendigo Bank — is dependent on the support of over 700 volunteers.
Locals and other interested individuals can volunteer for a desired period of time, across a range of areas including communications, social media, judges for display and presentations, design and construction and track marshals.
Volunteers are given breaks, complimentary snacks and a meal to say thank you.
The 2023 Energy Breakthrough kicks off on Wednesday, November 22 and will run till Sunday, November 26.
