Call for community entries
The popular Community Art Exhibition at the Central Goldfields Art Gallery is returning this November.
The Central Goldfields Art Gallery is encouraging residents to put on their aprons, grab their pencils, or snap away for their Community Art Exhibition.
The popular annual exhibit allows artists across the Central Goldfields and Avoca to enter ceramics, drawings, graphic art, paintings, photography, textiles or woodwork for the exhibition slated for November.
New to this year’s showcase is the 9 x 5 category, challenging artists to make the most out of the small canvas.
According to Central Goldfields Art Gallery coordinator Helen Kaptein, the display celebrates the talent of our local artists.
“This exhibition is about celebrating and encouraging the artistic talent of our region — our talented artists will get the chance to put their work on display in our gallery,” she said.
“The Community Art Exhibition has been going for a while but this year we thought we would mix it up a bit and have a 9 x 5 competition as well and I’ve just had a lot of fun thinking about the possible entries.
“We are hoping to pack out the main space with the submitted artworks and it will be a great showcase of what this region has to offer.”
Numerous prizes are also returning for the exhibition, with the ever-popular People’s Choice Award and the sponsored Maryborough Craft Shop Youth Award up for grabs for participating artists.
In preparation for the showcase, the art gallery is hosting a series of community art-making workshops run by local artist Patricia Walsh.
Ms Walsh, a former art teacher at Highview College for a number of years, encourages residents to take up art as a fun and fulfilling hobby.
“I will mainly talk about composition, how to bring your eye into a painting, how to get the atmosphere and I will use some of the famous artists to show everyone examples of this,” she said.
“I have been doing art since I can remember — you can totally lose yourself and all of your problems and you just concentrate on the visuals that you are creating.”
Entries for the Community Art Exhibition are due by November 17, 2024. For more information on the exhibition, including entry forms, visit centralgoldfieldsartgallery. com.au
