Pyrenees Premium Cuts have done it again, proving they are one of the best in the business as they brought home several major awards last week.
The butcher took out four national golds at the Australian Meat Industry Council 2022 Charcuterie Excellence Awards on Wednesday night — a competition open to all Australian manufacturers of small-goods products.
Up against butchers from across the country, Pyrenees Premium Cuts secured gold for their chicken cheese and jalapeno kabana, chilli cheese kransky, smoked cheese kransky and boneless ham.
Owned James and Hayley Collicoat, the awards back up the popularity of the business which now has stores in Avoca, Maryborough, Ararat and Castlemaine, and Hayley said the recent win with their ham was a stand out.
“We’re very proud of the ham. It’s the basic foundation of any butcher shop,” she said.
“We were up against Bertocchi in this competition and we won a gold standard. That’s really significant now — it’s not just butchers competing against butchers, we’re up against those bigger competitors.”
Ms Collicoat said while it’s great to get a win, awards like these are a boon for all small businesses.
“Anything like this that promotes small and local businesses, and small industries, is a win for everyone,” she said.
“We’re all just trying to succeed and ensure small butcher shops continue to exist, and having smaller businesses winning awards means people will look local.
