Laanecoorie Dunolly 129 def by Colts Phelans 6/189

Colts Phelans marched into True Blue Floors Oval and took a convincing 60-run victory over Laanecoorie Dunolly.

Colts won the toss and elected to bat first, where Kane Shepherd and Graham Taylor helped set up the early parts of their innings.

Taylor would score 57, while Shepherd added 29.

It was Johno Melton who finished off the job, remaining unbeaten on 61 to help Colts score 6/189 off their 40 overs.

Dean Liddicoat was Laane’s only multiple wicket-taker, finishing with 2/19 off two overs.

Laane looked to be up to the task early on, with Callum Liddicoat’s 34 and Brad McHugh’s 33 getting them to 3/107, but following McHugh’s departure, Laane collapsed, losing their last seven wickets for just 22 runs.

Shepherd did the damage, taking 3/16 off seven overs, while Hunter Kurzke took 2/1 off two overs to be Colts other multiple wicket-taker.

Maryborough 7/165 def Talbot 80

It was young talent time at Princes Park as Maryborough’s group of young emerging talent guided them to an 85-run victory over Talbot.

After struggling to 7/91 after being sent in by Talbot, a supreme innings from Sam Thomson, who remained unbeaten on 64, was the catalyst for the Owls to finish on 7/165, with fellow youngster Jasper Trickey scoring 18, Lachlan Bursill scoring 16 and Sam Ross playing heel to Thomson in remaining unbeaten on 13.

Ross had his fingerprints all over the early part of the Talbot innings, restricting the Yabbies to a barely believable 4/3 on his way to 3/34 for the Owls.

Jack Kenden and Karl Gunther steadied the ship for a time for the Yabbies, with Gunther top-scoring with 30 and Kenden adding 17, but they would soon again lose 4/3 to finish the game, with Trickey taking 2/3 off two overs.

The result leaves Maryborough on top by a miniscule percentage over Colts — such is the closeness of the competition.

MKM 2/123 def Carisbrook 120

The Mill are on the board, dominating to take an eight-wicket win over Carisbrook to reclaim the Spokes/Koop Shield at Ron Sinclair Oval.

Electing to bowl first, MKM took their time in getting into the game, but claiming the wicket of the in-form Elliot Cullinan — who made 61 to move to the top of the run-scoring charts — sparked a collapse.

The Mill would take the last seven Carisbrook wickets for just 24 runs, leaving them with a big opportunity to claim a drought-breaking win.

Making the move from Laane, Nathan Leist was immediately in the groove in taking 2/19 off eight overs, while Tristan Tack took 2/17.

The Mill did not miss their opportunity, with Sebastian Borg unbeaten on 36, while Muhammad Haseeb Khan scored 30 in an electrifying innings with three sixes and two fours, Jithin Aby Thomas 20 and Leist unbeaten on 21 as they cruised home with 17 overs to spare.

This Week

Clunes will roll into Beaufort looking for a win to move equal top on 16 points.

The Magpies have started the season well, and ended the winning run of Laane in their last start by five wickets.

Their only hiccup in that time frame has been a loss to Colts.

Opener Mark Jenkin has been in excellent form, scoring 96 runs, while Daniel Fordham has been a handy supporting act with 75 runs for the season.

Lucas Fudge has been their leading wicket-taker with four wickets for the season so far, while Josh Dunn and Jax Coon have three wickets apiece.

Beaufort now sit on the bottom thanks to MKM’s first win of the season, and will be hoping to score their first win of the season.

In recent weeks, the Crows have improved greatly, and were competitive against Talbot in their last start.

Ben Woolidge leads the way with 64 runs for the season, while Kenneth Arch now has 37 runs after a good innings against Talbot.

Woolidge also leads the Crows’ bowling stocks with four wickets, while Andrew Grant, Glen Cosgriff and Nathan Elford have three wickets each.
