Summertime fun is on the cards for residents in the Central Goldfields, with a range of activities planned throughout January to make the holiday period brighter for all.

The Central Goldfields Youth, Central Goldfields Art Gallery, Goldfields Family Centre and the Maryborough Regional Library have put together a jam-packed program filled with a range of fun and diverse pursuits — most of which are free — to keep young people entertained this summer.

Starting from now until the end of the month, the list of activities include art workshops, water fights, yoga and other engaging hobbies.

A highlight this summer, the National Gallery of Victoria Kids on Tour 2023 will roll into Maryborough on January 24 at the Maryborough Resource Centre Atrium — bringing with it free art-making activities and games. In line with this year’s theme ‘Let’s Make Art’, the event will see kids draw inspiration from the world around them, with the activities inviting children to create drawings, sculptures, poems, portraits, collages and one-of-a-kind creatures.

Adding to the fun, the newly opened skatepark will also feature a day of excitement with kids invited to hang out on January 17 and 24 from 4 to 6 pm as part of a Come and Try session — with refreshments provided.

Another activity planned for January 24 includes a screening of The Amazing Maurice at the Paramount Theatre in Mary-borough, with a limit of one adult to three children.

There are also additional events organised for Australia Day, on January 26, featuring music and games which will be followed by the Pride Festival on January 28.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Grace La Vella encouraged children and teenagers across the shire to sign up for one, or more, of the events organised.

“Our summer school holiday program has something for everyone, there’s escape rooms, pool days, movie days and you can even learn some new skills at the brand new Skate andScooter Park with our come and try days or get creative at the NGV Kids on Tour program at the Gallery,” she said.
