Bulls set to visit Carisbrook

While it won’t deal any ramifications on the one-day premiership, Beaufort’s upcoming trip to Carisbrook is set to play a massive role in the ongoing race for the top four.

Carisbrook made the most of Beaufort’s washout with Maryborough by overcoming Clunes to the tune of 34 runs, shrinking their gap to the fourth-placed Bulls to nine points.

If Carisbrook makes it back-to-back wins, that gap would quickly eviscerate to three just before the two-day season, a format that’s more endearing to their style of play.

Meanwhile, a Bulls victory would nearly set the top four in stone before the two-day games even start, with Carisbrook likely needing outright wins to eliminate what would be a sizeable 15-point gap.

Beaufort helped cement their place inside the top four with a five-wicket victory over Carisbrook back in round four.

While Kriss Ellis, Joshua Lofts and Lyle Aichroth contributed with the bat, the Bulls did the bulk of their damage with the ball, led by a combined six wickets from Benjamin Grant and Theo Trevelyan-Clark.

After going wicketless in his first two matches, Trevelyan-Clark is starting to find his footing in Australia, with the UK import taking 10 wickets in his previous five games, including 2/17 in his last outing versus Clunes.

However, Carisbrook possesses a rapidly emerging talent who missed that round four encounter and has since put A grade on notice.

His name is Elliot Cullinan.

Cullinan showed flashes at the start of the season, but he has since blossomed to scoring a combined 138 runs in his last two knocks, starting to develop a deadly top-order tandem with captain William Coutts.

Another point of confidence for last season’s runners-up is that they bowled superbly in their round four clash with the Bulls.

Tight bowling from Dean Nalder, Jordan Hooper and Brayden Wright kept Carisbrook in the game before Brandon Walsh and Nick Stabbins got Beaufort to surpass 130 with seven balls to spare.

Wright made his impact felt with the ball on Saturday, playing a crucial role in Carisbrook’s best bowling performance of the season so far with figures of 4/13. Wright now leads the team in wickets this season with nine at an average of 13.22.
