Avoca served up a reminder that it would still take a team’s absolute best to beat them, with a powerful 27-goal victory over Lexton on Saturday.

The Bulldogs utilised a dominant second quarter to take control of the contest, and eventually continued to power away.

It was a tight first quarter, with the Bulldogs scoring 16 goals, while Lexton scored 11 of their own to keep in touch.

But it was the Bulldogs’ 19 goals in the second quarter, while restricting the Tigers to just eight, which saw them open up a 16-goal break at the half.

The third quarter saw Avoca continue to pull away as they added 15 more goals, while Lexton scored only nine, with the Bulldogs leading 50-28 with a quarter to go.

Twelve more goals in the final quarter, while holding Lexton to seven, eventually saw the Bulldogs win by 27 goals.

The goal circle combination of Maddy Egan and Gina Beavis was too strong for everything Lexton threw at them, with Egan scoring 35 goals and Beavis 27, while at the other end, Rachel Phelan provided a good option for Lexton, scoring 23 goals.
