Carisbrook have been playing some good football, even though it’s only resulted in one win so far in the Ballarat Football League Women’s season, but will look to land a standout result on Sunday when they host Lake Wendouree.
The Lady Redbacks were more than competitive for long passages against East Point last Friday night, conceding just one goal in each quarter before eventually going down by 19 points.
It’s been a reflection of the season so far — major improvement, but looking for more scalps.
Regardless, after such a standout win against Bacchus Marsh, it would have pleased co-coaches Steve Atkinson and Matthew Johns that they were able to back up a good performance.
Olivia Butler was a standout through the midfield, while Tiani Jardine, Anika Munn, Danae Every, Rachael Stubbings and Abbey Bertram were also named in the best under the Friday night lights.
The Lady Redbacks will now have a big chance to conquer the team that beat them in the finals last season in the Lakers, and will be confident of putting on a show after a competitive performance away from home in their last meeting.
In that round two game, the Lady Redbacks were just 14 points down at the final change, but the polish from the Lakers proved to be just a little bit too good as they won by 44 points.
Katherine O’Rielly, Isabella Hoban, Maddison Smith, Munn, Butler and Tara Curtis were all named in the best that day.
At home, however, the Redbacks will look to continue to be a different proposition.
The under 16s will have a big chance, in the meantime, to land their first win of the season when they host the similarly winless East Point on Sunday morning.
Last week, the Lady Redbacks were able to put in a good effort against the high-flying Darley, holding the Devils goalless in the second half in a 32-point loss.
Chloe Wyatt, Amber Hogarth, Rhani Evans, Olivia Rogers, Emme Johnson and Georgina Bates were all named in the best, and will be hoping to put together another good performance to score their
