CARISBROOK 13.7 (85) def TALBOT 8.4 (52)

A topsy-turvy Saturday afternoon at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve saw Carisbrook make a fast start, withstand a fierce Talbot challenge for two quarters, before pulling away to win by 33 points.

It appeared it was going to be a very comfortable day for the Redbacks in the opening term when they slotted six goals to just one behind to lead by 37 points at the opening change.

But the Hawks have shown a tendency to fight hard against the tide, and that was on display again in the second quarter as they started to plot their way back into the game. They kicked three goals to Carisbrook’s one to reduce the margin to 24 points at the main break.

The third quarter was the most free-flowing of the afternoon, with both teams throwing caution to the wind. Carisbrook looking to maintain their lead, while Talbot looked to reduce it.

In the end, it was the Hawks that took the quarter, kicking four goals to three, to sit just 18 points behind at the last change.

But it appeared the Hawks ran out of gas in the last quarter, with their run falling short, and Carisbrook regained their composure to eventually finish on top by 33 points, keeping the Redbacks in the top four at their bye.

Adam Hurse played a commanding game for the Redbacks, and was named their best player, with Andrew Toan, Tim Rinaldi, James Fox, Patrick Van der Pol and Brady Neill also named in the best. Rinaldi was the leading goalkicker on the ground with four, while Ricky Pearson kicked three.

The Hawks have now fallen outside the top eight, and with Dunolly and Maldon their next two assignments, it is crunch time for the club if they want to make the finals.

Luke Kemp did what he could, and was named the Hawks’ best, while Dylan Page, Mark Ashmore, Jude McGuire, Brandon Solomano and Sam Hitchings were also named in the best.
