Carisbrook’s last home game of their first season back in the Ballarat Football League Women’s competition sees them host Lake Wendouree, with the Lady Redbacks hoping to take all their lessons from the season and turn this into a close game.

The Lakers have had the wood over the Lady Redbacks this season, winning their two encounters, but there has been a stunning rate of improvement from Carisbrook between both their games.

In round four, Lake Wendouree proved far too strong, winning by 184 points as the Lady Redbacks were held goalless for the afternoon.

But in the return meeting just a month later, Carisbrook put in a good showing at home, scoring three goals and reducing the Lakers’ scoring output greatly in losing by 67 points.

The Lady Redbacks were able to win the third quarter by kicking three goals, and will be hoping to replicate that kind of form on Sunday.

Last week, the Lady Redbacks held a stand-alone Saturday game against Darley, and held their own for large stages of the second half, holding the Devils to six goals, including two in the last quarter.

Julianne Baldock, Anika Munn, Tara Curtis, Sherriden Byrne, Olivia Butler and Cherie Reeves were named in the best players, with Reeves and Curtis the two goalkickers for the Lady Redbacks.

The Lady Redbacks will be looking to finish their home stand on a high, having recorded a win and showing constant improvement.

Elsewhere, the under 16s are officially out of finals contention, but they will be looking to finish their season on a high, starting with this week’s trip to East Point.

Coming off the bye, the under 16s will be freshened up, and will be hoping to turn around a tight three-point loss in their last meeting in round nine.

Prior to the bye, the Lady Redbacks were unable to stop a strong Ballarat Swans team who kicked seven goals to one after half time in their match up two weeks ago.

A win against East Point will give Carisbrook an opportunity to perhaps jump to sixth on the ladder in the final round, given that they will be favoured to defeat eighth-placed Darley, which would be a terrific result for the Lady Redbacks considering that in 2022, the group that played in the under 14s competition finished last with two wins for the season.
