MARYBOROUGH 7/181 def by CARISBROOK 4/184

Carisbrook vaulted up to third position on the one-day ladder courtesy of a six-wicket victory over Maryborough.

Maryborough won the toss and elected to bat first, given their strong form with the willow the week before.

Martin Dell and Mitch McClure got the score up to 33 quickly, but Nick Broad struck for the first wicket, luring McClure into playing a shot straight to Cole Harris.

That brought Ben Hoban to the crease, and while he and Dell were looking to put together a solid partnership, they could only manage 10 runs before Rohan Mackay struck, bowling Dell for 23.

Logan Kirkwood came in to get the Owls back on track, and along with Hoban, was successful in his endeavours, with the Owls putting together 40 runs with the duo at the crease.

Kirkwood’s innings would soon come to an end on 22, with Dean Nalder catching him off his own bowling.

Jackson Goodwin wasn’t able to stay the course after coming in, making seven before being run out by Broad.

That brought the in-form Lachlan Bursill to the crease, having scored his maiden century in the A reserve competition last week.

Bursill was able to bring his good form to the higher level, scoring 32 and providing the bulk of the 35-run partnership between he and Hoban.

However, James Adam would strike for Carisbrook, getting Bursill to hit a shot straight to Lucas Hurse.

Adam would strike again soon after, removing Marc Cassidy for 12, playing a shot to Brandon Carter.

Jasper Trickey would be the final wicket of the innings, bowled by Nalder for seven.

Hoban was able to maintain his stay at the crease, eventually finishing on an unbeaten 50, while Jacob Glen finished unbeaten on nine as the Owls posted 7/181.

Adam finished with figures of 2/28 for Carisbrook off his eight overs, while Nalder took 2/29 off six overs.

Carisbrook looked to be aggressive to chase down the total of 182, with Cole Harris and Martin Mark together at the crease.

Harris was super aggressive for his 54, his best A grade score of the season so far, but Trickey struck when he lured him to play a shot to Steven Shovan.

Mark and Nalder maintained the rage, helping Brook get to 2/161, with Mark in particular playing well in scoring his second half-century of the season against the Owls.

Nalder too was again among the runs, with his 37 taking him past 200 for the season.

Just 21 runs short of the total, Nalder was dismissed, bowled by Jackson Goodwin.

Mark wasn’t able to hang around for the end either, run out by Steven Shovan with just 19 to get for 58.

When Goodwin struck again to remove Damian Jones, there might have been a few nerves, with Brook losing 3/7.

But captain William Coutts and vice captain Broad guided Brook home with seven balls to spare, with Coutts finishing unbeaten on 14 and Broad on five to take an important victory in the context of their season.

For Maryborough, Goodwin finished with 2/29 off six overs, while Trickey took 1/25 to be the Owls’ other wicket taker.
