A captivating day’s play last Sunday at the Maryborough Highland Society culminated in two gripping finals which didn’t disappoint.

In the ladies’ tournament, Wallis faced Talbot’s Barbara Crossley in a rematch of the 2023 decider which went to Wallis 25-14.

Looking for a repeat of her 2023 performance, Wallis gained control of the contest early, leading 15-8 after 19 ends.

However, Crossley wasn’t keen on lying down for Wallis, slowly chipping away at the lead before both players found themselves neck and neck as they neared the winning score of 25.

In the end, Wallis would find the decisive shots, needing a mammoth 35 ends to defeat Crossley 26-20.

In the men’s final, Williams faced off against Newstead’s Bill Burnett, who has been a finalist in the last three Champion of Champions tournaments.

Similarly to the ladies’ final, both players were evenly matched, trading the lead throughout the contest to create some gripping final ends.

After nearly three hours of play, Williams came out victorious, denying Burnett with a 25-20 win.
