Navarre defeated Lexton by 39 points in extremely wet conditions at Navarre Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

The Tigers were first out of the blocks as Cohan Poulton took a strong pack mark in the goal square and kicked truly just a minute into the game.

But it was from this point in the game that Navarre controlled play and kicked five behinds in a row before Billy Driscoll was able to snap truly at the 18-minute mark and Navarre led at quarter time by six points.

Once again it was Poulton who goaled for Lexton early in the second term and again Driscoll answered for the Grasshoppers as Navarre kicked four goals in succession, before Pat McGuigan snapped a goal before half time for the Tigers to trail by 18 points.

It was a real hard slog in the third term as the rain intensified and the Grasshoppers kept the Tigers scoreless while kicking three goals through Tom Watts, Cooper Reading and Driscoll.

Scoring was again difficult in the wet and slippery conditions in the final term, but Driscoll revelled in the muddy conditions and kicked the Grasshoppers only goal for the term and his fourth for the game. Pat McGuigan kicked Lexton’s only goal for the term and his second for the game.

Lachlan Slorach was named as Navarre’s best player, and he was well supported by Jesse Hannett, Billy Parry, Driscoll, and Josh Fowkes.

Lexton named Adrian Verhoeven, Josh Sargent, Lachlan Rokebrand, Jake Eyers, Tom Cullinan and Poulton as their best players.
