Some stellar scores with the bat and memorable moments with the ball highlighted the weekend of A reserve cricket, with a weekend to remember.
Colts Phelans made the biggest statement, scoring a 145-run victory over Carisbrook.
Dean Walker made a hundred to savour, finishing unbeaten to vault to the top of the run-scoring list in the early stages, while Daniel McGregor provided solid support in a 144-run partnership, scoring 59. David Forde was another who cashed in, making 50.
Colts finished on 3/256, with Atticus Cullinan giving his all for Carisbrook, finishing with figures of 3/30 off eight overs.
In response, Carisbrook were never really in the game, although they did have some decent innings from Angus Morrison (23) and Simon Morrison (18), who were top scorers for Brook.
Brook eventually lost their last eight wickets for 61 runs to finish on 111.
Hunter Kurzke bowled well, taking 2/26 off seven overs, one of seven bowlers to take wickets for Colts.
A dominant performance with both bat and ball from Evan Elliott was the highlight as Natte Yallock took a 10-wicket win over Beaufort.
Elliott shone with the ball, taking 3/15 off eight overs, as the Crows finished on 9/119 off their 40 overs. Simon Grant was the shining light with the bat, making 31.
However, the Swans, led by Elliott, made light work of the run-chase, eventually finishing on 0/120 off 27.2 overs, with Elliott doing the bulk of the work with an unbeaten 92. Ben Williams supported him, finishing unbeaten on 16, as the Swans made it two from two.
Also unbeaten in the early stage of the season is Maryborough, who utilised a 105-run partnership to take victory by 90 runs over Clunes.
After striking early trouble at 2/5, with James Scott and Lachlan Bursill departing early, Ben Robertson and Kris Bagley rescued the innings for the Owls, with Robertson finishing on 75, while Bagley made 45, as they helped guide the Owls to 8/183 off their 40 overs.
In response, Clunes made a bright start, largely through Mark Jenkin, who top-scored with 23, but soon started losing wickets consistently.
Pravin Yadav made a mess of the Magpies’ middle-order, taking three wickets and a catch to finish with 3/14.
Scott, for his part, would later take a hat-trick, claiming the wickets of Callum Bourke, Dylan Davies and Denis Bacon to finish with figures of 3/11, with Clunes bowled out for 93.
Talbot are also undefeated, claiming a five-wicket win over MKM.
MKM batted first, with their top and middle order providing some solid scores, led by Tristan Tack’s 33 and Kushal Khamar’s 31, but in a common theme, weren’t quite able to go on with it, as they finished on 9/176 off their 40 overs.
Jack Kenden led the way with three wickets, while Lachlan Roche, Jag Searle and Isaac Vlcek took two wickets each.
In response, a 93-run stand set up the Yabbies, with Jye Kenden’s 32 supporting Jorde Bux, who made 51.
Despite a collapse which saw the Yabbies lose 4/29, Searle finished off the job, making an unbeaten 34 as Talbot made 5/178 off 27 overs.
Lewis Patten was MKM’s best bowler, finishing with 3/53.
Three games make up this weekend’s action, with Talbot’s game against Natte Yallock postponed until December 16.
MKM and Carisbrook will have the opportunity to get their first win of the season, with the two teams meeting for the Spokes-Koop Shield.
Impressive winners last week, Maryborough and Colts Phelans will battle it out at Princes Park, with the Owls looking for a third straight win, and Colts looking for a second win in succession.
Clunes will be looking to bounce back when they travel to Buangor Recreation Reserve to face Beaufort, who are still looking for their first win of the season.
